Now that the petrol price is going to keep increasing how much does it cost to get to the weekend river races? What amount you should be offering someone for taking you and your kayak to the river and back. Often it's the owner of the vehicle that gets the short end of the stick! Have a look at the table below and see how much you should be offering towards the petrol and tyre costs. Download your Calculator HERE
This graph does not taking into account the fixed cost like insurance/instalments etc. Take the rand/km amount based on Diesel/Petrol and Passenger/bakkie then multiply it by the distance driven.
For example: A trip in a Isuzu double cab (3.0L engine) from Milnerton to the Nekkies – Alfies race is a 315km round trip. 4 paddlers and a second (NB! Second should never bring out their wallets) If you have Kayaks on the roof add 5% If you are towing a single axel trailer add 8% If there are more than 5 people in the car (Kombi) then add 12% Don’t forget to add toll fees. What about some extra (R20pp) for the carwash if its a muddy Berg race?
Based on AA rates. 1.69( from graph) x 315(distance) = R532 + 5% (for kayaks on roof) =R 559 + R50 toll = R609 Divide by 4 paddlers = R152 each excluding carwash etc
