What is Canoe Polo?

Canoe Polo is a mix of water polo played in short stumpy kayaks with a touch of bumper cars. It’s a team sport, with 5 players per team on the water at a time. The goals are suspended 2m off the water surface. It’s a fun and competitive sport, where paddlers can refine their boat and sprint skills. Canoe Polo is played around the world, and South Africa has sent a national team to the World Champs every two years since 2000.

Currently we have several experienced players, as well as several novice players (never been in a boat before) and everything in between. It’s a good stress reliever.

Tuesday: V&A Canal, 5:30pm – 7ish

Thursday : V&A Canal 5:30-6:30pm

Under a news item:

Lotto and CSA have funded the Western Cape, together with other provinces, a complete set of new Vuvubats in order to help grow and develop Canoe Polo across the country. The boats, developed by South African company Fluid Kayaks, are expected to arrive in Cape Town towards the end of February. The new boats will definitely even the playing field, by putting all the current players in the same type of boats.

It is a plastic polo kayak that delivers high performance in an affordable, almost indestructible package, making it perfect for beginner to intermediate polo kayakers.
