To all WCCU paddlers, There have been a number of queries regarding registration and racing from paddlers – here are the rules/regulations as decided at the 2010 WCCU AGM: From and including last weeks race, Berg River Dam, WCCU paddlers will only be allowed to race one race unregistered with the union/CSA. Issuing of a temporary licence for this race will be charged at R140/R70 instead of the usual race fee R80/R40. If you raced Berg River Dam unregistered you have utilized your credit and will not be allowed to race again until you are formally registered. This means registering 10 days before the event you plan on entering in order to allow the various administrative procedures leading up to registration to be finalised. Please do not arrive at a race expecting to paddle if you are not registered and have already used up your credit because you will not be allowed this option. The only exceptions to this rule are the following novice races: Dal Josephat/Lady Loch and Marina Mini Marathon K2 which being flat water and beginners events, anyone is allowed to race. NOVICES will also be allowed to race Marina da Gama unregistered but as this is a Presidents Trophy race this rule will not apply to experienced paddlers if they have already used their credit. Please note that entry into the WCCU Marathon Champs at Misverstand on 8th/9th May is only open to 2010 registered, river proficient paddlers – this is not a novice event.
Also note that if you are registered with surfski (WSK) only, you need to join a canoe club before being allowed to race canoe races as per CSA regulations. Extract from AGM minutes of 18th February 2010: “All paddlers need to be a member of a registered canoe club. Paddlers may paddle on 2009 registration up to and including Hermanus – Stanford, after this all paddlers need to be registered with WP and CSA. An exception will be made up to and including Dal Josephat – Lady Loch, and a temporary licence will be issued at a cost of R140 per senior and R70 per Junior. Each paddler will only be allowed one temporary licence per year though.” Any queries can be directed to the above e-mail address, Regards, WCCU Executive Committee |
