RACE REPORT: GOUDA-BRIDGETOWN K2 |

On Saturday 1st August, in brilliant weather and on a medium level Berg River, between Gouda Bridge and Bridgetown, the K2 (doubles) season was officially opened when 70 plus paddlers, most in K2’a, tackled this 28 km stretch of the Berg River.
The event was dominated by Gavin White and Graeme Solomon (Pen), who set the pace with Cornelius Human (Out)/Edgar Boehm jnr (Sim) and Lance Kin (Mil), who was in a K1, all coming home in a fraction over 2 hours – very good times in this level of river and a section known for its trickiness to paddlers.
Robyn Kime/Jemma Hofmeyer, after a disastrous start which saw them pegged into the Palmiet about 200 meters from the start line and so have to watch most of the field paddle past them, work very well to pull themselves back into a Top Ten position following a hard grind through the racing pack.
It is assumed that from next week, when the K2 season races move to their traditional home in the Cape, i.e. the Breede River, that numbers of entrants will climb, the Breede River Marathon (set for the 5th and 6th September) being in their sights.
