Take the N1 to Paarl. Take the Paarl R44 off ramp opposite Butterfly World. Carry straight along this road until you get to the four way stop near the Wellington Bridge. At the 4 way stop turn left and go until you get the Lady Loch turn off – not far – turn right. Follow the road until you get to the big metal bridge at Lady Loch. The race starts here. After the start, you can watch just a little further down the river or go straight on to Schooltjie. To carry on stay on the road you arrived at Lady Loch on – river on the right. Further along the road you might see some cars parked. Do not go alone – you can park there, go through the grass and trees to the river, and watch them pass. Then carry on to Skooltjie by staying on the same road until you get the “ Berg Rivier Plase” sign. Here you turn right onto the gravel road. Carry along the gravel road until the farm Voelgesang with the white entrance posts on the left and the farm workers cottages on the right. Walk down the little road to the river, stand on the bridge and shout encouragement. Then off to the next spot – Grensplaas. Carry on along the road you are on, river on the right, quite a way along there will be a farm sign on the right “Grensplaas” – farmer Mr Serdyn, you can go in there. Once you are on the farm road quite soon there is a branch off to the right. Take it through the little stream up past vines and follow the road to the left down towards the labourer’s cottages. Park there and then you can walk up stream and watch them doing battle with a tree stump or two. After Grensplaas get back onto the main gravel road again and carry on, further along the road when you can tell you are quite close to the river and maybe you see some cars parked, can possibly identify a farm pump building with tracks heading towards the river. You can park on the main road and walk down |
