NEW RULES FOR QUALIFIERS AND NATIONAL RANKING LADDER PDF Print E-mail

NEW NATIONAL QUALIFYING RULES  FOR MULTI-DAY EVENTS and NATIONAL SEEDING LADDER - As approved at the CSA Congress in December.

Qualifying.

1. For all one-day or minor races the paddler must have attained the River Proficiency Rating required for that race.

2. Qualifying for major SA River races. Berg, Breede, Fish, Croc, Vaal, 50 Miler, Dusi, Umko, Tugela, Drak Challenge, Orange.

In order to qualify the paddler must:-

2.1. Have attained the required River Proficiency Rating required for the event.

2.2. Have accumulated, in the six months prior to the event in question, a number of points equivalent to the number of days of the event in question. Points may be accumulated by completing races as follows.

2.2.1 One point for a river race or river racing day of whatever class longer than 20km

2.2.2 Half a point for a river race or river racing day of whatever class shorter than 20 km or a flat race of longer than 20 km.

2.2.3 Quarter of a point for flat races of less than 20km.

Note: Multi-day races count each leg separately but the entire race must be completed for any of the legs to count. e.g. Berg gives 4 points if completed but 0 points if only 2 days were completed.

Seeding.

Seeding and batching for SA River Championships and other major River races with strong interprovincial representation.

A National K1 and K2 Ranking be established. This must be updated after every designated ranking event and published on CSA website, SAKayak and as many other sites as we can send it to.

K2 ranking is by combination so a single paddler may well have more than one K2 ranking each with a different partner.

All SA  River Championships and other major river races requiring seeding and batching must then use the ladder for batching. All age-groups and both sexes will be ranked according to overall performance.

Combinations and K1's who do not take part in ranking races will not be seeded and will simply be batched randomly at the back of the field. Except that International paddlers will have to be catered for separately and A Graded paddlers in K2 combinations that have not raced together before in ranking races will be ranked as a combination by averaging their current K1 ranking percentages.

Races to be used:

SA Flat Marathon Champs (Senior Race only), Berg, Breede, Fish, Lowveld Croc, 50 Miler, Vaal, Dusi, Umko and Drak Challenge.

Any other race wishing to be used must apply to be allocated the status of National Ranking event and will only be approved after the event if it had participation from at least three boats from the top 103% of the current ranking list at the time in the class to be used for ranking.

Percentage of the winners time will be used as the marker, K1's and K2's separately. The only single result, an average of the only two results, an average of the only three results, or an average of the best three results will be used for each boat. The last 12 months races will be used. So last years Fish will count for this years Fish after which it will fall away and this years Fish will be the most recent race used - and so on.
