DOWNLOAD FULL RESULTS HERE The 20 km Wyzersdrift K2, raced on the Breede River in fairly low conditions and between the Darling Bridge at the foot of Bain’s Kloof and Wyzersdrift, had 83 paddlers complete the section, this the second of the K2 races on the Breede River of the K2 season and which will culminate in the annual Breede River K2 Marathon on 3rd/4th September. The somewhat smaller field was more a result of the race being held at the end of a long weekend, but the competition was no less as intense up front and between the various categories racing. Final sprint for the line by the winning K2 and K1: Lance King (Milnerton) the K1, Edgar Boehm jnr/Alasdair Glass (Peninsula/Peninsula) in the K2 |

RACE REPORT & RESULTS: ROOIBERG NEKKIES - EILANDIA |
DOWNLOAD FULL RESULTS HERE If ever there was a reason to canoe the rivers of the Western Cape and in particular, the Breede River in Boland/Klein Karoo region in the Worcester/Robertson region, then the 'Rooiberg Nekkies to Eilandia' K2 canoe race over 27 km, held on Saturday 5th August, 2011, would have been that reason. Why? Because, there on a beautiful river, flowing at approximately 20 cumecs (i.e. medium to full) and under the soaring, snow-capped peaks of the Hex, Riviersonderend and Langeberg mountain ranges, set off against the brilliant blue of a cloudless sky and with virtually no wind, more than 100 paddlers lined up (albeit in chilly early morning conditions), to race the first of the WCCU K2 season doubles races that culminate in the Breede River Canoe Marathon on 3rd/4th September.

The K2 season gets off to a start on the rivers of the province this coming weekend with the Rooiberg Nekkies to Eilandia K2 event on the Breede River (and which will culminate in the annual Breede RIver K2 Canoe Marathon, that will be held between Robertson and the Kambati Resort, on Saturday/Sunday 3/4 September) and the 20 km stretch on the same river, known as the Wyzersdrift rK2 race, it being raced from the Darling Bridge and Wyszersdrift. Between the Nekkies – Eilandia event and the Breede River Marathon, there will be 5 K2 canoe races hosted by various canoe clubs in the Western Cape and all will be on the Breede River – 2 of them actually being held on the section of river that the 76 km marathon is raced over in early September. |
