Following an online survey of its members and a motivation from Milnerton Canoe Club, WCCU has agreed to halve their portion of the registration fees. The Union has sent a request to CSA to also reduce their fees. We await CSA's response.

The motivation behind reducing the fee is to make it more affordable to new paddlers as well as the ex racer who has been paddling for years and just want to do some social paddling and the Breede Marathon.

Here is the breakdown of the fees:

The full seasons fees are R600 of which R215 goes to CSA.

WCCU has agreed that the remainder of the K2 season fees will be R400 regardless of CSA's answer.More than halving the unions fees.

If CSA does agree to the request and reduce their fees, we can look forward to a registration fee of around R300 for our K2 season.

Some Clubs have aready reduced their fees for the K2 season to assist in the drive to get new and old paddlers back to our rivers.

The annual Rooiberg Cellars 27 km K2 canoe race on the Breede River between Nekkies and Eilandia, was paddled by some 140 enthusiastic canoeists on Saturday 9th August in conditions that can only be described as perfect. There was no wind, the sky was clear, the river of a medium height, so that the known (and some unknown!) sneaks all worked, the Alfies low level bridge could be shot with little difficulty (although Mark Torrington will challenge that!) and the prize giving was held in the pleasant surroundings of the Roiberg Cellars on a clear Cape winters day. What more could be asked for? This race also featured the first of the K2 races that will lead up to the Canon Breede River K2 Marathon on 6th and 7th September, which will also double as the S.A.
