Schloms and King snatch dramatic Hansa Breede title Swellendam - Lance King and Heinrich Schloms snatched victory in the Hansa Breede marathon with an controversial tactical move just a few hundred metres from the finish using a sneak channel they had discovered the day before to outsmart the other three crews in the tussle for the crown. Ant Stott and Graham Solomon and the duo of Pierre-Andre Rabie and Andy Birkett had been the dominant forces in the four-boat vanguard that hurtled down the Breede swollen by the arrival of the water that had teased the bear record field with its late arrival.

DOWNLOAD FULL RESULTS HERE Some 170 paddlers were presented with a medium level Breede River at Drew Bridge on Saturday 27th for the 37km K2 canoe race scheduled between this bridge and Die Stroom, the end point in the Bontebok National Park, near Swellendam that was the final K2 race of the Breede season before the ‘Hansa Breede River Canoe Marathon’ that will take place in the same area of the river next weekend – 3rd and 4th September.. As with the previous weekends race (Robertson to Bonnivale0, the weather was very good, although, as the morning’s racing progressed, the S. Easter wind that did blow, definitely brought a chill to a good number of paddlers when the course took them head-on into it. |
